Last stop- Aksakusa

DSC00111

On our last day in Tokyo, we didn’t have to catch the metro for the airport until after lunch, so we decided to metro-hop over to Asakusa for the morning.  We’ve been here before on other trips, but they have the best red bean filled cookies, so it’s a must-stop whenever we’re in Tokyo.

Ginza for dinner…

DSC05418

On our last night in Tokyo, we decided to head down to Ginza to see if their themed Alice in Wonderland café happened to have any available tables.  When we saw that everyone was out and about, not to mention, the roads were blocked off to traffic and pedestrians were walking in the streets, we knew our chances were about nil.

Gingerbread Snowflakes Guest Post

Colonel Santa Sanders

Over the past year I’ve become virtual friends with Pam from www.gingerbreadsnowflakes.com, a wonderful lady who writes a wonderful blog all about her crafty endeavors and Christmas!  Pam’s website is best enjoyed with a steaming cup of hot cocoa.  She and I share both a love of Christmastime and the fact that we are crafty dabblers (we don’t specialize in a certain craft medium, but rather enjoy trying all sorts of crafty projects.)

When Pam asked if I’d write a guest post for her website about my experiences with Christmas in Okinawa, I was ecstatic!  Getting to write about two of my passions – Japan and Christmas – oh yeah, count me in!  My guest post has now become part of her “international Christmas” series.

Go check it out!  http://gingerbreadsnowflakes.com/node/463  And while you’re there, be sure to check out some of her great craft tutorials and yummy Christmas cookie recipes (she’s currently holding her 2011 Christmas Recipe Swap and I’m anxious to try some new recipes!)  Grab a cuppa and enjoy!

Gundam Cafe

DSC05396

On the last full day of our long weekend in Tokyo, we went action figure hunting.  Tokyo is our serious action figure hunting grounds (for second-hand action figures at potentially great prices!) and we literally metro-hop to all corners of the city.  During our stop in Akihabara, we decided to try out the Gundam Café.  Although neither of us are avid Gundam aficionados, as huge sci-fi geeks, we felt it important to patronize the local sci-fi-related café.

Hibiki with Mayu

DSC05382

We took the Metro over to Shiodome to meet up with Mayu for dinner.  We got there a bit early, so we walked around the area to see what we could find.  Brandon was happy to find an Okinawa restaurant during our meandering – I think he was going through shisa-withdrawal.
