Lee and Kristin at Cha-bira Shoku-Do
We had a wonderful 5 days with Brandon's aunt and uncle coming to visit us! We did some sightseeing around the island and ate as much beni-imo ice cream as physically possible. :) Our day at Torii Beach yielded a number of beautiful seashells and sea glass. It also required three trips down to the sea wall to release hermit crabs who evidently shared an interest in some of the shells we had collected. And here, I thought, I'd been so careful when finding shells - these little suckers were evidently too sneaky for me. Ah well, lucky them, they got an all-expense-paid trip from Torii to Sunabe.
Brandon with his fortune for this year and his lucky charm for his SM-X.
Monday was our last day with Kristin and Lee. We spent it wandering around Naha, visiting the area Lee remembered from the time he was stationed here.
We stopped at Naminoue Shrine and Brandon and I took this opportunity to take part in some of the traditional Japanese New Year activities. We got our fortunes for this year and our good luck charms for our cars. Both of us received good fortunes that you can read in our photo gallery. Gee, now that I think about it, I hope our fortunes aren't supposed to be kept as a secret! :)
My "lunch box" set at Kenny's.
Megumi and I went out for lunch yesterday at Kenny's, located in Plaza House. Plaza House is a three-story, open-air, small mall on the other side of Kadena. Kenny's is a Japanese restaurant on the third floor.
Snowmen and snowflakes cookies- what better way to celebrate January?
I've been going through snow withdrawal. Everyone has been nice enough to send me photos of all of the snow in Omaha - they've got well over 20" and parts of I-80 have been closed down to one lane. They are also dealing with windchill of -24 this afternoon. Can't say I'm missing the negative numbers, but I am missing the gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful snow! Our 55 degree nights and low 60s degree days are about as "winter" as we get here.
