Before and After
Over the past two years, I’ve been helped with my couponing by a handy coupon organizer. Unfortunately, it was showing some wear and tear lately and the elastic closure had almost completely torn through the front cover. I could have just bought another coupon holder, but then I thought what about making a unique cover for the holder that would make me smile every time I see it?
I had already performed some minor cover surgery a few months ago when the flap started to tear a bit. Handy and oh-so-adorable 100-Yen Store tape to the rescue! It’s flexible enough to allow the cover to still bend, but provides stability and is less-likely to tear than just creating a new cover with thin cardboard.
So when the elastic closure tore the eyelet out of the cardboard front today, I set about totally personalizing the cover as I repaired it.
I began by gluing a heavy scrap of cardboard over the hole left by the grommet.
After that, it was all about covering it in the adorable “Do one thing every day to make you happy” tape I found. Sorry I don’t have a taping-in-process photo, but honestly, I was preoccupied with trying to smooth the majority of the air bubbles out. (Thank goodness for old plastic gift cards!) Once I finished taping the inside and outside coupon cover, I made a hole through the reinforced cardboard using my handy Making Memories Instant Setter. I’ll watch the hole for the next few weeks and decide if I want to add an eyelet to help add additional support, or if the cardboard is sturdy enough.
Don’t the bright colors and cheerful saying instantly make you smile? My coupon holder went from strictly useful to fun fashion statement with some great tape and a bit of planning. Now I have two reasons to smile regarding couponing: the awesome re-made holder AND the great money savings! So much fun!
